what is this?

big louie's universal calendar reform, or BLUCR, is a rework of the Gregorian calendar that makes the system more intuitive and consistent. it uses a year with 12 months, with 5 weeks per month, and 6 days per week.

how does it work?

days and weeks

there are 6 days per week, and 30 days per year. the days are named like this:

  1. Onesday
  2. Twosday
  3. Threesday
  4. Foursday
  5. Penday
  6. Sixday

the days' naming is consistent, with the exception of penday. it's named like that because, to me, the Proto-Indo-European word for five, *pénkᵂe, or pen- for short, fit better in the "-sday" or "-day" syllable structure than "five" or "fri".

months and the dark week

there are 12 and a half months:

  1. January
  2. February
  3. March
  4. April
  5. May
  6. June
  7. September
  8. October
  9. November
  10. December
  11. July
  12. August
  13. the dark week

i made one large change to the months, particularly the names. july and august are moved to after december. this is to ensure that september is the seventh month, october is the eighth month, and so on.

you might also notice that there is a period at the end of the year called the dark week. if you look at all of the months combined, you'll see that the 12 months x the 30 days per month, that's 360 days. but a year is 365 days! that's what the dark week is for. this is a 5-day period that does not belong in a month.

gimme some holidays!
